National Navigation Award Scheme

As registered providers and assessors of the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) we are proud to offer all three awards  to suit all levels of ability. These start with  the bronze award which is aimed at beginners who wish to navigate in the countryside, through to the gold award in which an individual has to show competence in all aspects of navigation.

NNAS is a nationally recognised, certificated and structured navigation award scheme for all ages and is supported by the British Orienteering Federation, Mountain Leader Training UK and the British Sports Trust.

Bronze Award is an introduction to map reading and navigating in the countryside using paths tracks and other linear features, and includes  basic map interpretation and compass work.

Silver Award - adds to the Bronze level by adding the skills required to navigate to features and places some distance from paths and tracks. Accurate compass work is required and an ability to use the appropriate navigational techniques to go across country.

Gold Award - navigation in the countryside using skills from the first two levels, but adding techniques and wider strategies for dealing with complex contour features, large and small in all weathers.

For full  details of the levels in the award scheme, award syllabuses and assessment information which we will be working towards please refer to the National Navigation Award Scheme web site.

All courses are run over two days and the cost is £90 per person with  a maximum group size of 1:6
